Special Thank You To

For more than thirty years, John has worked as a fiction writer and private investigator evaluating evidence and working with lawyers to tell the truth about their clients.

For this very special evening, John will discuss the nature of truth and the importance of historical and scientific accuracy as an essential quality of lively storytelling, in fiction and even poetry.

He will read from his fiction work that comes from research in and around Juneau, followed by a Q & A.

John Straley is the award-winning author of eight crime novels, including The Woman Who Married a Bear and Cold Storage, Alaska. He has also published a book of poetry, The Rising and The Rain (University of Alaska Press). Winner of the Shamus and the Spotted Owl awards for his detective fiction, John’s novels are published all over the world. The University of Alaska Fairbanks awarded him an honorary Doctorate in 2008, and he was appointed the Alaska Writer Laureate in 2006. He lives in a bright green house by Old Sitka Rocks with his wife Jan, a noted marine biologist.

Prior to the Straley Showcase, we will execute our Annual Meeting with the public welcome and encouraged to attend.

Straley’s housing while in Juneau has been generously donated by Linda Wendeborn & Mark Thorson, Inn Keepers at the Alaska Capital Inn. We would like to thank Linda and Mark for all of their kind and generous support to all of Juneau over the years, we wish you continued success. Cheers!
